◊ This program is distributed as Shareware: if you like it or use it please honor the shareware system by sending $5 to the author at the address above. Since collecting international cheques is very expensive, please send cash only. If you MUST send a cheque, keep in mind that the banks will gobble up more than half of it.
◊ NOTE: Getting some (usually very few) bucks is what you write shareware for, but getting a note, a postcard or anything else is a lot better than getting nothing. I'd like to know how far this program has gone, so remember that you can do something nice even if you don't have a couple of $$$ to spare.
• WHAT IS IT?
◊ List Files is a very straightforward utility that creates text catalogs of any folder or disk you drag on it. The text file can be edited and saved for later use (you'll be able to read or print it with any word processor or text editor). Text catalogs are a very convenient way to keep track of unmounted volumes (like floppies or SyQuest's) because they are small, easy to read and easy to search.
◊ List Files takes full advantage of System 7, but it will also run on older systems (the minimum version required is 4.2). Just use the "Open…" menu item instead of System 7's drag & drop method.
• HOW DO I CUSTOMIZE IT?
◊ You may use the preferences dialog to set the deepest level of nested folders you want to list, the number of spaces to be used as a prefix when listing the contents of a folder and a folder name suffix to distinguish folders from files. You may also tell the program to skip aliases and invisible files when creating the catalog.
◊ The "Choose Text Editor…" menu item brings up an "open file" dialog that should be used to select a word processor or text editor application. This will change your text files' creator (text files will have the appropriate icon and double-clicking them will launch your text editor).
